Elizabeth Squirrel Situation: Hi David - My wife and I have squirrel(s) in our attic. We have had the issue for some time, but recently the problem has gotten dramatically worse. There is a lot more noise and the noise is coming from new places in the attic; I feel like I hear a new spot every day! Is this likely because there are young that are now old enough to be moving about on their own? If so, is a repeater trap a good option at this point? I've talked to a couple of companies, but they're asking prices I just can't afford at the moment so I may have to try this myself. My thought has been to plug most of the holes, leaving open the 1-2 that seem biggest and get the most frequent use, with either a one-way door or repeater trap over the last two exit points. Does that seem reasonable? Our situation is complicated by the fact that there are two areas I'm hearing noise where there is no access to the attic, so I'm very leery of winding up with babies in an area that is inaccessible. Thoughts? Thanks for the website - its extremely helpful!

My response: Usually when noise increases, it's due to the young running around. But that often doesn't happen until February or March. Your plan sounds good though. If the animals are moving, they can get out of a one-way door.

Hi David, I am looking for advice on the sequence of repairing a facia board, on a soffet of a flat roof air space, and removal of squirrel(s) in said airspace. There is much scratching and gnawing in the ceiling under the airspace. The facia board is rotted, and will be repaced. Questions: 1a) would there be an advantage to removing the entire rotted facia board to gain access for removal of our furry residents (grey squirrels)? - the board was pulled away in an ice storm 2-3 years ago. The gap is the access point. *or* 1b) should we re-attach the facia board, and drill a 3' hole for some kind of trap. 2)please confirm, or not, that in January, in PA, the mom's would not be giving birth yet (says Mar and Sept on your website - thanks much) Have a happy and blessed new year, John
