Sterling Heights Squirrel Situation: Hi David, We recently discovered that we had 2 families of squirrels living in our walls. We called critter control and they came out and set up one way traps then covered the holes a few days later. Our problem is they keep coming back and chewing other holes in the roof. How do we keep them away? Please help! Sincerely, Squirrel hater in Oakland County MI

If they are persistant with chewing, you can try to spray Ropel on the areas being chewed. Or you can have them trapped and removed from the area.

Ok thanks. So now we have another problem. Critter control came out today and boarded up the holes, and they found a new one. The guy said that he would go ahead and board it up because the squirrel was most likely out during the day. Well tonight we hear scratching in the walls where that hole is at. We went outside and looked and still heard it. He is trapped on the wall! Now that everything is sealed up how do we get it out?!

You must open that hole, and then watch for when it comes out, and then re-seal it. If you just leave it trapped inside, it'll cause some damage, then die, then rot and cause a huge odor, then 21 days later, you'll have a hatch of flies.

Joy.. guess I will call them first thing tomorrow to have them come unseal it then. Thank you, you have been very helpful. Do you know how much your friend charges for trapping squirrels?

Also, I should point out that it's not an option to leave the hole sealed shut and then set a cage in the attic for two reasons. First, squirrels almost never enter a cage set in an attic. I have tested this and confirmed it with other trappers around the country dozens of times. It can happen, rarely, when a dehydrated squirrel enters an attic-set cage baited with oranges (it wants the moisture, not the food), but it would probably fail for a variety of reasons. Second, if in the off chance a squirrel did go into the cage, it would stand a good chance of dying of heat stroke - not that you may care about such a thing, they are rats with bushy tails, but I'm just letting you know. Still, almost no chance it gets caught in a cage trap in the attic, and then you're left with a dead smelly squirrel. Not sure what Matt charges, but he's a much better deal than your current company. Just call an ask him, no pressure. He's very friendly.

One more question sorry :) I thought squirrels were outside during the day. Why is it that I heard them in the walls during the day and he is trying to get out at night?

Squirrels go in and out of the house many times per day. and sleep in the attic at night. They are only active during daylight, but they still go in and out. Hi again David, My husband and I discussed it tonight and we have decided to go ahead and use your service. We had that dead trapped squirrel removed today and needless to say animal control was not happy that he was deceased, saying that it was inhumane. Sitting here in our living room tonight we hear more squirrels in the walls and my husband went to check the attic and they are in there. This is just not something we can do on our own. We want them out so they do not keep destroying our house, and possibly cause a fire. I apologize about the back and forth but we have decided for sure that we want you guys to come take care of them. We do not want one ways because they did not work before. They just chew other holes. We would like to have them trapped and removed if that is possible. Please contact me as as soon as you can. I appreciate your patience. thank you very much. Sincerely, Shanna
